The Power of Music – Medicine for Body and Soul

“I really like to listen to music when I want to relax and unwind.”

“Music to me means freedom, expression and emotion.”

“I would be lost without music.”

When I asked people in their early 20s what MUSIC means to them, those were their responses – and I can just agree.

But the power of music is far greater than that.

In the course of my research, I discovered that music can also have astonishing impacts on our mental and physical health.

From improving our mood over having an antidepressant effect to strengthening our immune system.

The latter point probably surprised me most. It was when I came across an article by the neuroscientist, author and musician Dr Daniel J Levitin.

He suggests that by listening to music, the body produces more antibodies type immunoglobulin A.

That antibody type is one of the most common types of antibodies in the body and is found in the linings of the respiratory tract, so in the throat and the lungs for example.

Moreover, the body produces natural killer cells when exposed to music.

Those are cells that attack invading viruses and boost the immune system’s effectiveness.

This documentary is to investigate this and many more effects that MUSIC can have on us.

Listen and enjoy an exploration of the power of music!

TIP: For best effect listen with headphones, soon you will know why…
