2022 marks 100 years of the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum.
The museum originates in 1901, when Merton Russell-Cotes built a house on a cliff-top overlooking the sea, as a birthday present for his wife.
They filled the house with British art and things they collected on their travels around the world, “then they sealed it in time, and gave it to the future”.
The Russell-Cotes Art gallery and Museum officially opened in 1922, 100 years ago.
It is one of the last Victorian houses to be built in England. This year, the museum and art gallery will have a range of events including tours, themed late night openings and workshops to mark their 100 years.
The Russell-Cotes Facebook page have a 4.7 star rating and many satisfied customers posting about their visit.
