Two serving police officers, of Dorset Police, appeared in court today for dangerous driving offences.

The two-car collision, between a marked police car and Honda civic,  happened on Littlemoor Road, Weymouth on July 9 2022.

Six people were injured as a result of the incident, including both policemen and the occupants of the Honda, two of which were young children.

PC Derek Alexander, of Bovington, and PC Harry Chaplin, of Weymouth, appeared via a video link at Poole Magistrates’ Court today.

Alexander was charged with dangerous driving and Chaplin was charged with causing serious injury by driving. Both have entered a plea of no indication.

The case will be dealt with at the Crown Court, as the officers’ defence counsel stated that the magistrates lacked sufficient authority to further the case.

The pair were released on unconditional bail and are next set to appear in Bournemouth Crown Court on the 16th of February for a plea and trial preparation hearing.
