After making the final round of the Australian Open qualifiers, Jodie Anna Burrage has become a name on the lips of tennis fans as a potential future star of British tennis. So here at BUzz News we have all you need to know about the former West Hants Club player.

Where is Jodie from?

Originally based from Kingston upon Thames, Jodie Burrage started from 11 years of age at West Hants Tennis club. According to her coach, the initial start to her career was through a performance programme between the club and Burrage’s school, Talbot Heath girls institute. When Burrage turned 16, she left the academics programme to excel in her professional career in London. Burrage’s support circle consisted of mother, Yvonne Burrage who played at a national level in tennis, with a ranking of 155 in 2005 according to the ITF. In addition she also had the support of Leicester Tigers scrum half Ben White.

Whats Jodie’s Currant ranking?

Currently, Ms Burrage’s rank is set at 124th in the world. She has had a successful start to the year with a 71% win rate out of the 7 games she has had. Head coach of the academy, Richard Irwin, trained Burrage from the start of her career.

He explained: “She’s still very young. People forgot, they think you can make it when you’r 20 which some players can but it’s not that easy”. Especially within the UK, most athletes will stay within the bracket of 250 – 200 ranking.
