Bournemouth students are helping to organise a boxing charity event in Southampton for Bournemouth University.

Wilder Fight Night Boxing is a student ran charity event for Oddballs, a charity fighting against testicular cancer, taking place on Saturday December 15 at Switch Southampton.

It will pit university students against one another in a chance to be crowned Student Fight Night Bournemouth Champion 2023.

Many of the participants will be making their debut in the ring.

Arun Tyer is helping to organise the event and saw this as a great opportunity to get back into fighting.

He said; “I’m a bit nervous as I have never had a boxing fight before but also excited and am looking forward to showing the hard work I have been putting into training and sparring sessions.

“I might not get this opportunity again and as I’m doing events management at university, I am gaining experience and learning every day.”

Included in the charity event is a seven-week training camp for each of the participants including all different types of workouts and drills.

Azzan Mulenga, another fighter, has spoken about the intensity of the training.

He said: “I have been doing sparring twice a week and on the third day it is dedicated to cardio and training on the boxing bags as well as two more private sessions on conditioning and this will carry on until the fight.”

The card will consist of approximately 12 fights of various weights and classes including men and women, and with the capacity of the venue at 1,500 it sets to be a popular event with many people excited including boxing fan Zak Wall.

He said: “This will bring a lot of interest not only to this event but the whole sport, it is growing so much at the moment and is one of the most popular at this point of time and so it’s a great idea.”
