“India to win it” – cricket fans have their say ahead of the World Cup final

Dorset cricket fans have had their say on who they think is going to win the World Cup final on Sunday, as host nation India will take on Australia in Ahmedabad.

India go into the match at the Narendra Modi Stadium after dominant performances, culminating in a semi-final win against New Zealand, and John Hannigan believes that it’s their trophy to lose.

“I’m backing India to win it. Home nation, home support and the best team by far in the tournament.

“They’ve not just beaten teams but crushed them, barring the semi-final against New Zealand.”

Despite predicting a home victory, he also warned that Australia could cause an upset after building momentum throughout the tournament.

“There’s something lucky about this Australia team. They haven’t played well but they won today.

“Every team in a tournament is due a bad game, which India haven’t had yet, and the Aussies have the bowlers able to get out Kohli and the like.”

Meanwhile, Samantha Livermore believes that Australia are in with a chance of winning the tournament and that she wouldn’t back against the five-time champions to return to glory.

“You can never count Australia out. I thought at the start of the tournament that they might struggle to get through the group stage, but they overcame that and have looked hard to beat since.

It’s difficult to see anyone beating India at the moment but in cricket I’ve learned that you can never rule Australia out when it comes to the big matches.”
