Appeal withdrawn for development plans in Highcliffe

January 24, 2024 //  by Maria Prigoreanu

Jesmond Wood developer withdrew appealĀ to build on woodland in Highcliffe.

Mr. Christopher Bulstrode owns the land nearby the woods on Jesmond Avenue. He first submitted his plans to build 16 homes in April 2022.

Due to this, he received a lot of backlash from the local residents who felt that Jesmond Wood was under threat of the development.

According to Jesmond Wood’s website page, they are challenged by a “combination of pressures; deforestation, climate change and inappropriate development.”

They also state online that:

“If Jesmond Wood is lost, there is an increased risk of flooding in the village and irreversible damage to the unique biodiversity of Highcliffe.”

In December Mr. Bulstrodes’ plans were denied by the BCP council the same year as the plans were submitted.

He sooner launched an appeal against BCP’s refusal, but he has since withdrawn the appeal.

It has been suggested that the reason behind this is because he took note of the phosphate policy that the BCP council approved in October 2023.
