Devastating news for Cherries’ fans as Wilson is ruled out for the season

AFC Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson has been ruled out for the rest of the 2016/17 season with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

The 24-year-old, who has scored six goals in 21 appearances this season, suffered the injury in training on Wednesday and scans have since determined the severity of it.

Wilson will work with the club’s medical staff for further treatment and rehabilitation, which is expected to last for six months.

“We are all devastated for Callum,” said manager Eddie Howe. “What’s important now is that he receives the support and love of his family and friends, teammates and everyone associated with AFC Bournemouth.

“Callum showed incredible character and determination to come back from a similar setback last season and we know he has the same strength and will to do the same again.”

Wilson joined AFC Bournemouth from Coventry in the summer of 2014 and fired the Cherries to the Championship title at the end of his first season at the club.

He scored five goals in 13 appearances last season but spent around six months sidelined, between late September and early April, following a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
