Poole Pirates Speedway have announced plans to donate 25% of all merchandise sales to the Emergency Fund for the Australian bush fires.
Pirates have strong links to Down Under after the exploits of star riders such as Chris Holder, Davey Watt, Mick Poole, and former Australian National managers Craig Boyce and Neil Street.
Poole will be plying their trade in the UK’s second tier for the first time since 1955, meaning their financial situation is tighter than before, highlighting the act of generosity.
Pirates Promoter Danny Ford told BUzz news: “Obviously everyone has heard the news of the devastating bush fires in Australia. Poole has a massive affiliation with many riders coming from that area. So, we trying to do our little bit and show our report.
“Ultimately, we saw the news that donations were really needed, and you can see the loss of life and damage to wildlife and people’s homes, it is absolutely devastating.
“We were just looking at our options, trying to think what we can do to our little part. With all the riders we’ve had over the years, the Holder brothers, the Kurtz brother, Craig Boyce all Pirates legends.
“It just made sense for us to do our little bit.”
