A 14 game unbeaten run saw them lie third after beating Evesham United.
Manager Tim Sills and his coaching staff had lost just one game after bering hired from local rivals Hamworthy United in October.
But their form stalled as they failed to win any of their next four games.
Their latest defeat came in a 5-0 home loss to Bashley, the side who first ended the Magpie’s unbeaten run earlier this month.
Speaking after this game, Goalkeeping Coach Ben Sullivan called for some perspective:
“When we came in we were 16th. We went 14-games unbeaten. On reflection, did we ride our luck a little bit at times? Probably, with scoring goals in the last minute. But the boys who went on that 14-game unbeaten run are exactly the same boys we have now.”
In their four games before Scholing, Wimborne picked up a solitary point. The 1-1 draw at home to Melksham town sandwiching a 5-2 and a 3-0 away loss to Bashley and Frome respectively.
Despite this poor form, Sullivan maintained that finishing in a play-off spot is still the club’s expectation, saying:
“The play-offs are still the aim. We’re still in the play-off spots. We’ve still got a game or two in-hand on those below us, but rather than looking above us to first and second, we’re currently clinging on to 4th and 5th.”
However, the poor run of form has been compounded by third place Hamworthy United, currently occupying the final play-off spot for a home semi-final, picking up seven points from their last four.
The club’s most recent defeat leaves them in 4th place, but they still have a five-point gap and a game-in-hand over 6th place Bashley, who sit just outside the play-off places.
